⚠ DA40 NG Engine Risk

Austro AE300 overhaul is Austro-only. Exchange program can reach $85–90k installed. Best case ~$30–35k. Scrutinize engine time and calendar age carefully on any used example.

★ SR22 Sweet Spot

For the KFIT→RDU transportation mission, the SR22 is the natural fit. 178 kt cruise shaves ~40 min vs SR20 each way. Mid-2000s examples now overlap with newer SR20 pricing.

⚡ Mooney Anomaly

The M20J delivers SR22-class range at SR20 fuel burn for $100–200k. The catch is ergonomics — tight cabin especially in back. Outstanding value for solo or two-person flying.

📋 Assumptions

100 hrs/year · New England hangar ~$8,400/yr · 100LL at $7.25/gal · Jet-A at $7.00/gal · Annual op cost excludes loan payments and depreciation.
